Ostrich Bay Birdhouses & Feeders is located in the Great Northwest, on the shores of Ostrich Bay, in Bremerton, WA. This one-woman workshop, designs and builds one-of a kind houses and feeders; each house and feeder drawing its own character from the distinct markings in each board. Each bird house and feeder is made by hand from locally produced red cedar, and each board is chosen and cut expressly for its colorful grain that is highlighted with a myriad of knots. Since our bird houses are made by hand, no two are quite the same. They are designed to specific birds and their breeding habits. They are also free of outside perches, as perches invite pesky predators. Each shingle is split by hand from buttery smooth, straight-grain cedar. Joints and shingles are firmly secured with nails or screws, as well as glued for real durability. Each house is intentionally left rough inside, so baby birds can find purchase to safely climb up and out. Each bird house and feeder is then finished with brass hooks, brads and hinges. Maintenance is a snap, as there is no need to stain or paint your bird house or feeder, as cedar is naturally suited to withstand outside elements. Annual cleaning of each bird house is easily done, as each house has a trap door, or a slide-out panel, for easy access.
Naturally, a portion of the proceeds are donated to local conservation organizations.
